Oluce takes Atollo by Vico Magistretti, to Lightopia, the exhibition curated by Jolanthe Kugler that opens at the Vitra Design Museum on 28 September with a reflection on artificial light.
Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, the exhibition shows how lighting design has shaped the modern environment and it examines changes in the current model, placing it in a wider historical-cultural context.
Lightopia showcases around 300 works, many of which are icons from the Vitra Design Museum lighting collection, never before on public show. Designed for Oluce by Vico Magistretti in 1977 and winner of the Compasso d’Oro award in ’79, Atollo fits beautifully into this exhibition, which after the Vitra Design will travel to other museums around the world. Precisely because it is an undisputed, immediately recognisable design icon, Atollo has been selected as the cover image for the official catalogue.
